Previous commenters who have undergone this kind of situation say they intimately related; for someone like myself who has not (yet) experienced such a trauma firsthand, it expands our perspective, giving us a small inkling of what such an ordeal is like. Rang true throughout--the verisimilitude of the piece makes me also suspect you write from firsthand experience here. (If not, you fooled me.)
