Also, I loved this part - "I left the glow of the fire and strolled north along the beach through fog-softened moonlight, feeling as I have so often lately, isolated, lost between youth and age. I couldn’t find any road leading into the future, and the road behind me, out of the past, had disappeared." It’s hard to create such real, complex, conflicted people in such a short story, but not only did you do it, you made it look easy. Also, I loved this part –

You got right to the heart of their inner struggles. Darryl is a complex protagonist for such a short piece. I enjoyed that Shana has depth to her, also.
