I always like this. I wrote this last Sunday in my notebook, thought it was goofy. Read it to my wife who thought it cute. On Monday I typed it up and sent it off to a site that likes surrealism. On Tuesday, it was up on the site. Speed rocks. Does not give me time to second guess the work. Which is a double edged sword at best.

K is for Kafka?

Wicked little tale, Dave.  That first line made me snort my orange juice.  Grin

I'm glad you laughed at the first line KC. I had a humbling moment with this wee piece when I wrote it. I sent it off to Haggard and Halloo on monday afternoon and that night I went to a poetry reading at a cool rock club that does a small poetry reading on Monday nights. The crowd was good, about 15 or so, so with cocky swagger, read this one. I read the first line, paused for laughter from the audience, and got nothin'. Crickets baby

The crowd, mostly folks in their twenties, didn't know the source material, they didn't know the Metamorphosis. I just assumed it was a given, part of the heritage, but that was my fault, my belief that the things I like are known to everyone. It's not like I picked an obscure line, its just that it might not be part of the zeitgeist as much as I thought, something to be careful about when doing a literary pastiche.

Yep, wrong crowd.

Dave, the things you like ARE known to folks with intelligence and wit.

Most twenty-somethings can't be bothered to read, couldn't spell a multi-syllabic word to save their life and think music and poetry is profanity that almost rhymes.

Our education system has much for which to answer.

And that's all I have to say about that.
