Thanks for the welcome, Jordan, Sarah, and Gay! I'll try to keep this updated, but I'm going to start out slow because I have a broken hand.  Cry Hopefully I'll be back to pounding on the keys with both hands in about two-three weeks.

Broken hand! Blimey, that sounds bad. Hope it heals soon, Nicholas.

Love the quote from The Thing in your sign-off. One of my favourites. I remember seeing that film in Manchester when it was first released and then holding an entire bus-load of college kids SPELL-BOUND the next day as I related the scene with the defibrillator and the spider head. Happy days!

I'm also fond of, 'I know we've all had a hard day and we're tired and emotional but please WILL SOMEONE UNTIE ME FROM THIS F*CKING SOFA!!!!"

Okay, Sarah, now you've gone and done it--now I want to rent THE THING again. One of my favorites. Hmm...I used to own it. Must be one of the DVDs that disappeared in the move.

It's a classic. Ah, those heady days of the early 80s - so much horror goodness! American Werewolf in London is another favourite from the same era. And I remember catching The Evil Dead JUST before it got banned in the UK. "Wait 'til I get you in the cellar, Ash!"

Army of Darkness is my favorite of the three Evil Dead movies. Trapped in the past. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas.  ::sigh:: They just don't write like that anymore.  Grin

As to An American Werewolf in London, the best part for me was the way Griffin Dunne kept showing up, a little more tattered each time.  I thought the best werewolf transformation scene was in The Howling.

And why, in God's name, did they ban Evil Dead in Great Britain?

Britain's been banning American horror films since the days of Tod Browning's Freaks, which wasn't shown there for about fifty years, I think. Which may be a bit ironic, if one considers that the roots of US horror are predominately British.

British horror maestro Ramsey Campbell wrote a novel in 1989 called Ancient Images, the plot of which relied heavily on this penchant for banning horror films.

If certain episodes of Torchwood are any indication, the censors have lightened up considerably.   Cheesy
