A great selection!  I'm pleased to see many of the stories I recommended will be in the anthology.

And what a pleasant surprise--thanks for throwing my story in the mix, and for your hard work.

That's fabulous news.  Thanks for selecting Larry Legend and My Corona - they are in great company.

I'm very much looking forward to the anthology.

If there are any other Atlanta-based EDF'ers, maybe we can do a book reading or something - that would be fun.

Okay, all initial proofs have gone out now.  If someone is on the table of contents and has not received their proofs, please let me know so I can resend them or try a different email address!  (I mention this because we've already had one spam-blocker issue that I know of... not sure what I did to get on the wrong side of a spam robot, though).

Let me say once again that it was really hard to narrow down the list of stories.  There were a lot of great stories that we just couldn't fit in.

Returned my proofs this morning.  I was so excited to see my bio among all the other great authors listed on the page, and then to see my story with actual printed page numbers, well...okay, I'm a big geek or dork or whatever.  But, you know what?  I don't care!  Wheee! Grin

BTW, any chance that you folks will celebrate the launch? Kevin and Gay and I have been talking about driving up to Vancouver together, if you do. That, in itself, should be reason to party.  Grin

We absolutely will celebrate the launch, and we'd love to actually meet you in person (and that goes for any EDF authors, readers, and friends who are within reasonable reach of Vancouver)!  I've also heard that there's some enthusiasm for organizing readings/signings/gatherings in other parts of the world wherever EDF people congregate.

The question right now, given that we're aiming for early December to actually have this in print, is whether a Christmas launch party is a good idea, or whether that's too much of a logistical and travel hassle for everyone and sometime in January would be better.  Opinions on that are welcome.

It's great you're based in Vancouver--I live only 30 minutes away!

The holiday season is a great time for book signings.  When I did signings for Writers of the Future, people were 3 or 4 times more likely to buy a book in November/December, because they were often buying them as gifts.  So an event in December could capitalize on that.

Then again, the authors themselves may find January a less hectic month...

Cheers,

That's actually what I'm working on today, K.C.!  I have to figure out retail pricing in Canadian dollars, US dollars, UK pounds, and euros.  Mainly I'm trying to make sure that we don't end up in the red when the 55% trade discount meets the cost of printing.  Tricky stuff!  Luckily my husband is an accountant, so I'm going to ask him to look over my numbers once I think I've got it.

Thanks again for the beautiful proofs, Camille, and thanks for my inclusion in the antho to all!  This is going to be a great collection--can't wait.

So...Vancouver's a little far for me.   Bummer.  Anybody in the NC/Va area and want to do a signing?  I'll actually be in Florida in January, for that matter.  In my limited experience signings are much more fun if there's more than one author wielding the pen.

So... everything has been sent to the printing service, and we're just waiting to see a proof now in order to release the anthology for sale, hopefully sometime next week.

In the meantime, here are some details for you...

We have prepared two versions of the anthology, a hardcover gift edition and a trade paperback edition, to offer readers a choice of price point and format:
  • ISBN 978-0-9810584-0-5 The Best of Every Day Fiction 2008 – 292 pages, clothbound gift edition w/ dustjacket – retail price: $28.95 USD • $34.95 CDN • £18.95 GBP • €26.95 EUR
  • ISBN 978-0-9810584-1-2 The Best of Every Day Fiction 2008 – 292 pages, trade paperback – retail price: $15.95 USD • $18.95 CDN • £10.95 GBP • €12.95 EUR

The publisher is Every Day Publishing (our own imprint), based in Vancouver, Canada.

The anthology will be available for distribution by Ingram, so any bookstore will be able to order it in, and we are hopeful that it will be carried by online retailers such as Amazon as well.

We're still working on a process for direct sale, in order to give an author discount as we would like to do.  We will have some details on that for you soon, and I'll try to get some cover images up as well.

As always, Camille (and the rest of the EDF crews), GREAT JOB!!

I have a few questions:

1.  Will there be a "selll sheet" authors can use to entice local book stores?

2.  Will there be any customer-related marketing material?  Maybe like a one-page flyer in PDF form that authors can download, print locally and then distribute?

3.  Will there be any promotional materials that authors can purchase - such as bookmarks - to give away.

4.  Any thought about review copies?  Maybe we could have an "author sponsor" program - where an author can purchanse a book to be sent to reviewers.  Authors would pay for the books, but maybe EDF could front the postage and logistically handle the send, with a cover letter.  I'm thinking that sending a copy to someone like Dzanc could be beneficial or maybe the editors of the original Flash Fiction and Sudden Fiction anthologies.

5.  Any chance you can print a list of the authors' names along with the states they live in - to better coordinate any book readings?

Thanks again for all your hard work!  Jason

Excellent questions, Jason!

1.  Will there be a "sell sheet" authors can use to entice local book stores?
I'm working on a sell sheet right now. Our priority up to this point has been to get the anthology into print in time for Christmas orders (it's going to be a near thing, but they shipped our proof copies today, apparently!).  Unfortunately, we're a bit late for holiday marketing (something learned for next year), so our major sales push won't really happen until the new year.

2.  Will there be any customer-related marketing material?  Maybe like a one-page flyer in PDF form that authors can download, print locally and then distribute?
I can certainly do that. Would you prefer to see a blank space at the bottom for the author's contact information (for authors who want to do direct sales themselves), or a more general type of flyer directing people to order the book at any bookstore or online retailer?  Or both?

3.  Will there be any promotional materials that authors can purchase - such as bookmarks - to give away.
We actually have EDF buttons, stickers, and magnets on our Cafepress shop already, and we could certainly look at something similar but specific to the anthology.  As far as I know, Cafepress doesn't offer bookmarks, so we'd have to look into a different service for that, but it's a great idea.

We are definitely planning to send out some review copies, but it's the publisher's responsibility and we would not ask the authors to fund such a thing! Recommendations as to who should receive a review copy are very welcome; send us your suggestions using our contact form, as we will be making up a list.  We can't, of course, promise to send review copies to every name we receive, but we do want to make sure the anthology has the best possible chance at getting some influential reviews.

5.  Any chance you can print a list of the authors' names along with the states they live in - to better coordinate any book readings?
The problem with that is our privacy commitment to our authors, who might not want their locations published. During the proof approval process, I did encourage all of the authors to follow this thread for information about readings and signings, so hopefully those who are interested will be reading this. My suggestion is: if someone in a given area wants to take charge of setting up an event, I can email that person's contact information and area to all the authors, so that anyone in the area (or who wants to travel to the area) can respond.  Please use our contact form if you would like to organize an event, and I'll help you get started.

EDIT: By Jordan--removed the e-mail addresses and replaced them with contact form so that we don't drown under a deluge of spam-sending robots.

And finally, at long last... you may place your orders!

http://www.everydaypublishing.ca/cart/

Anyone in the UK and Europe should ignore the USD pricing in the shopping cart, as you will be billed in GBP so we can ship to you from within the UK (saves on crazy overseas shipping!).  Anyone who wishes to pay in Canadian dollars or Euros, please contact us before placing an order.

Our shopping cart is a brand new system, so please be patient and let us know if you encounter any problems. We're right on the “holiday ordering” cut-off for hardcover orders and very close to it for paperbacks, so please order quickly if you’re looking for holiday gifts (and note that unfortunately EDF is unable to make guarantees about shipping arrival times, sorry).

ANTHOLOGY AUTHORS: I will be emailing you shortly (in the morning Pacific Time, I've got to sleep!) with your promo code to ensure that you get your author discount.  Details will be included with the email!
