What a sad and beautiful story. You're very descriptive which helped paint the sad image of a boy seeking safety somewhere and for some reason. I liked that you kept the reader in the dark until the very end; it kept me intrigued. The reveal of the kitten at the end was the perfect conclusion. It made me even feel even more for the boy as it shows how tender-hearted he was. And the fact that he sought refuge in a school made me think a school is probably one of the few places he has ever felt safe. Like I said, sad and beautiful.
